Why did I start this blog? It feels like we are already so busy, what with working full time, starting a family, the constant surprises that come from home and vehicle ownership, etc. How could starting a blog possibly help?
I think it really came down to a moment I had when I was out trying to clear my head of all the burdening thoughts related to my full time job. At first it started with "I need a hobby to keep myself occupied", but the more I thought of this, the more I thought that I already had plenty of things I enjoyed doing.
I love to cook for my family. Not only cook, but plan the menu, the grocery trip, what I need to get, selecting the freshest produce, adding my own tastes to a recipe, setting up the dining table, and a host of other small things related to the dining experience.
I also love to be outside. Whether it be outside working on our yard, hiking in the nearby Palo Duro Canyon, jogging through our beautiful small town, or going for a walk with my family at our local university's charming campus, being outside has always been something I enjoyed.
Home improvement has surprisingly turned out to be another activity I have come to enjoy. As first time home buyers, my wife and I were not able to afford a brand new, no-problems home. We found a modest home with a good mix of things that needed to be worked on. As we live here longer, it seems like that list grows a little bit more, even as we check some things off of it, but it hasn't dampened our spirits yet. In fact, it has been exiting thinking of all the things we could improve in our home, to make it more and more our own. Some projects are small, and we can tackle them right away, and some are far away projects that need lots of financial planning. Regardless of the size of the project, the feeling of satisfaction we get at the end of a project is what has me coming back for more every time.
Finally, I realized that I enjoy sharing all of these things that I love to do on my own, and with my family. I also thought it might be a good to have this sort of creative outlet where I can focus my mind on the the things that truly bring me joy.
So to anyone that happens to stumble upon this blog, now you know what I am all about. I don't claim to be an expert about any of this, it's just a way to share what I love, and what I am learning about it on the way.
